12 Hours of ATV America

The rules are simple -- One ATV, 1 to 3 riders, two six-hour sessions on a six-mile course.

Classes are determined by your team's racing experience. Choose between A, B or Pro level or race the Industry or Utility Expert class.

In its inaugural year, teams from 26 different states, Quebec, Canada and France flocked to Fort Dodge, Iowa. The track was a masterpiece that showcased the Mid West Offroad TT course (round 7 of the '02 GNC TT series) in its center. In order to utilize the rest of the facility's sections, track layout and design experts, led by 2000 Open Pro National Champion, Bryan Shipley, spent months carving and sculpting the rolling hills along the Des Moines River.

A strong running reliable ATV will be the key to winning the 12 Hours of ATV America.

Riders will need to equip their ATV with headlights for the final (6) hour session.

The track features motocross, TT and cross country sections. Here is a partial view of the Mid West Off Road front straight. Teams will switch riders, make changes and fuel up just like drivers in NASCAR events do.

Spectators will love the Mid West Off Road facility. They'll be able to view the entire TT portion of the track, as well as many other areas of the course with very little walking at all. Don't forget your binoculars and walkmans so you can tune into the play by play on the radio!

GNC supporters loved what was laid out for them. The TT and motocross sections with their jumps and the wide-open high speeds highlighted their area of expertise. The motocross section of the track included a set of whoops, many off camber turns, a few double and single jumps and a tabletop jump. The first few miles of the five-mile course were fast and wide. Later, riders disappeared into the second half of the track where cross-country-type terrain awaited them. Most teams ran motocross widths, so the tight woods might have resembled a freeway to some die-hard GNCC racers, while others dreaded the six-foot clearances, off camber turns, steep hills, ruts, slippery turns and stumps that GNCC riders tend to routinely swallow up in stride.

Spectators enjoyed watching as the riders maneuvered through "Bath Tub Hill", a steep, muddy "V" shaped downhill section in the middle of the challenging wooded portion of the track. After surviving the tighter, slower section of the track's final miles, riders then tally a lap for their team at the finish line, where they are electronically scored.

The Maxxis 12 Hours of ATV America is the one event that has been missing from our sport and our country for many years. It will indeed become the Indy 500, the World Series, the Superbowl of ATV racing. Don't hesitate in getting your team's entry sent in because classes are limited and filling up fast!

Registration is now available, but classes are limited, so get your team's entry in as soon as possible. Pre registration only. Riders will only sign in at the event. If you would like a crack at the Maxxis Tires $30,000 purse or top notch amateur contingencies, if you've got two riders in mind that are just as brave as you are, if your team has the stamina, determination, and unity, and if your team is accepted by our committee -- then you'll be a part of the 2003 World's Premier ATV Race - the Maxxis 12 Hours of ATV America!
